Reports suggest that Hansi Flick has urged Barcelona to pursue a transfer for Manchester United winger Marcus Rashford, following the Catalan giants' failed bid to secure Nico Williams.
Since taking over at Barcelona, Flick has expressed a clear desire for a left-sided winger capable of both scoring and dribbling. The club initially targeted Williams from Athletic Club earlier this summer, intensifying their interest after the winger played a pivotal role in Spain's Euro 2024 victory. However, it now appears that Athletic Club is unwilling to part with their star player this summer.
With Williams seemingly off the table, Barcelona has turned their attention to alternatives, including Bayern Munich's Kingsley Coman. Another surprising name that has surfaced on their shortlist is Rashford from Manchester United. According to GOL Sport journalist Albert Fernandez, Flick has specifically requested that the club sign the English winger.
The 26-year-old Rashford had a disappointing season last year, managing just eight goals and six assists across all competitions for United, and faced significant criticism for his performances. His lackluster form also led to Gareth Southgate omitting him from England's squad for Euro 2024 in Germany. This season, Rashford has featured in both of United's matches so far, but his performances have been far from convincing.
Barcelona has yet to make an official offer for Rashford, and it remains to be seen whether they will pursue a move before the summer transfer window closes. Rashford's next opportunity to impress will come on Saturday, when Erik ten Hag's United face Brighton in the Premier League.
